In all fairness, I do realize I am going to start running into more issues with various programs if I do not upgrade my OS eventually.Has anyone with an older machine like mine upgraded to Sierra or High Sierra? I'm trying to weigh the pros & cons of updating the OS. That's not too horrible because Firefox is still supported. Everything runs fine with the exception of Safari which is no longer supported. MBP 17" / high sierra I have a Macbook Pro 17" (mid-2010), 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB memory (max-ed i believe), 1TB SSD and yes, still running Mavericks OSX. Can this be done? I am not about to spend a fortune on another iMac - 8 years is not very long to withdraw support! I am looking for someone to "downgrade" my OS to a more stable and more useful version. For example minimizing a window is slower and "broken up" - not a smooth slide down to the tool rack at the bottom of the screen. I have also noticed that there are several other issues that whilst not effecting performance are worrying. Furthermore the machine generally will be no faster. For example an old copy of Windows Office will spend eons looking for the file open and save file dialogs. The reality is that it will run at times very very slowly. Any 32 bit software you have will still run (hopefully) but the system will inform you that the software is not "optimized" for use with this machine. I would advise anyone with a similar vintage of machine NOT to "upgrade". As I understand the background this is the first step into 64 bit only. I upgraded to HSierra a little while back.
